Welcome! As a concerned Georgia resident – whether you are a parent, an educator, or teen – you're taking an important step towards stopping underage drinking!
Did you know that alcohol kills more young people than all illegal drugs combined? According to the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, in 2007 underage drinking cost the citizens of Georgia $1.7 billion in costs for medical care, work loss and pain and suffering – all attributable to the use of alcohol by our youth!
Underage drinking is not simply a teenage rite of passage. Among the many messages about drugs, alcohol and risky behaviors that we convey, it's time that we also let kids know that alcohol is, in fact,
The Worst Drug of All.
We need your involvement to get the conversation started...and to keep it going. The Council on Alcohol and Drugs, with funding from the Governor's Office for Children and Families and in partnership with Connect with Kids, has created these online resources to help give us somewhere to start our conversations:
- The half-hour television program, The Worst Drug of All, produced by Connect with Kids on behalf of the Council on Alcohol and Drugs, was shown on television stations across Georgia in the Spring of 2010. We encourage you to watch this program online with your family, community group or students.
- The Worst Drug of All Resource Guide with a fact sheet, parent tip sheet, discussion questions and age-appropriate activities to accompany the television program.
- The Worst Drug of All Public Service Announcements, to further raise community awareness and to direct concerned parents, educators, community leaders and teens to these resources.
- Ten powerful video vignettes featuring real kids talking about real alcohol-related experiences and outcomes. We invite you to watch these segments as an additional tool to promote discussion and change behavior.
Thank you for joining efforts of the Council on Alcohol and Drugs to stop underage drinking in Georgia.
