“Children Come First” is more than just a motto for Prince George’s County Public Schools – it exemplifies our commitment to create a secure and healthy learning environment for all of our students and families. We know that our students can only succeed when they attend school – and beyond just physical presence, are truly engaged and involved.
To that end, Prince George’s County Public Schools, in partnership with Connect with Kids, has launched an expansive community initiative to empower parents, teachers, and student advocates – our Dream Leaders – with the materials and resources to help create a climate in which students are connected on social, emotional and academic levels. Our goal: to encourage school attendance and engage each and every student.
The initiative provides important resources for use in and outside of school – to help facilitate youth meetings, parent and community group discussions, and to view and discuss the solution-oriented television program about the risk factors that lead can lead to truancy and missed opportunities for life-long learning. Disconnect: Why Kids Skip School, part of the Emmy®-Award winning Connect with Kids television series airing nationwide (including on W*USA 9 in the Washington, D.C., viewing area) features Prince George’s County students and staff.
