I couldn’t agree more, although i do believe that looking to yoour own actions/ behaviours etc and modifying those to reflect your belied structures will often eliminate the need to talk to your children as our children will mimic us in our behaviour and therefore if you see your child being disrespectful, it is most often a reflection of something you have said or done. More than once as my daughter has been growing up when i have seen her behaviour, on reflection it is a mimic of either something my husband and i have said.
Talking to them though is important with simple explanations from when they are little to more detailed and discussed explanations as they get older.
The rule I live by is that i never say something that i would not want broadcast or do something that I would not be comfortable having done to me or made public!
