We welcome you to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Health Literacy through Technology Initiative!
This Arkansas Children’s Hospital program, in partnership with Connect with Kids, provides online powerful video and print resources to convey health information that impacts teens – and their parents.
What role does technology play in learning? Research proves that video-based instruction is more memorable than the traditional text-based instruction, and that students can form an emotional connection in as they see themselves in the real stories shared.
What is health literacy? It is commonly defined as is our ability to understand health information and to use that information to make good decisions about our health and medical care. This is an especially critical challenge during the adolescent years when, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, teens make more decisions that will ultimately impact their adult life – and death – than at any other time in life.
Click on the boxes to the left and watch 12 videos on today’s critical adolescent health challenges – from managing stress, anxiety and depression, avoiding underage drinking and prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse, to understanding dating and relationships and physical fitness and nutrition. Continue the conversation at school and at home by downloading accompanying lesson plans, discussion questions and parent information sheets.
Stay tuned for more information as we continue to measure the program’s impact on behavior and attitudes among high school and middle school students in Arkansas.
We thank you for being our partner to improve child health in Arkansas!
